Obituary for William R. " "Bill" "Pappy"" Ocker

William R. " "Bill" "Pappy""  Ocker
William R. Ocker, 80, of Lewistown passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2017 in the afternoon at the Geisinger Medical Center-Danville.

Better known as “Bill” and “Pappy,” he was born June 17, 1936 in Yeagertown and was the son of the late Oliver Ocker and Virgie (Bingaman) Ocker.

He is survived by his loving wife Nancy (Watt) Ocker whom he married October 2, 1954

He is also survived by his children; Theodore Ocker and companion Christi Isenberg of Lewistown, Donice Powers and husband Kevin of Indianapolis, IN and Ricky Ocker of Gig Harbor, Washington. Grandchildren; Tammi Hvozda, Traci Offutt, Rebekah and Catherine Ocker. Step-Grandchildren; Kevin Powers, Jr., Lee Rhys, and Kelly Powers. One Great-Grandchild; Travis Walter, and 8 Step Great-Grandchildren.

Bill was a graduate of Lewistown High School class of 1954.

He served in the PA National Guard where he was a member of Howitzer Battery, the 104th Armed Calvary, and 28th Infantry Division.

Bill retired in November of 1999 from being an Over-The-Road truck driver for more than 32 years.

He was a member of the Moose Family Center #143 in Lewistown, a lifetime member of The Mifflin County Sportsman’s Club, a lifetime member of The Teamsters Local #773 in Allentown, a multi-year event chairman for the Mifflin-Juniata Senior Games, and a devout member of the Grace United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and member of the adult Sunday School class.

Acting naturally, Bill was extremely outgoing and easily made friends at home and driving truck around the country. In his free time, Bill loved attending classic country music showswith Nancy, watching his Kansas City Chiefs, camping, bowling, hunting and taking photographs. He was a civil war buff who also loved to collect Winross model trucks. He was a devoted model railroad hobbyist who wouldn’t let a year pass without seeing the Mifflin County Railroad Club display. He was also an avid typewriter collector and enthusiast who enjoyed writing many letters to the Sentinel’s editor. He regularly attended high school and Penn State basketball games.

He was a lifetime Chicago Cubs fan who enjoyed to watching them finally win the World Series.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Bill will be held on Wednesday February 15, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at The Grace United Methodist Church, 101 Logan St., Lewistown with The Rev. Richard Bender officiating.

Barr Funeral Home Inc., and Crematory, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown is in charge of arrangements.
