Roger G. Barr, of the Barr Funeral Home, is excited to announce the next chapter of ownership of the funeral home in Stephen D. King.
Stephen is the son of Joyce (Long) King, and the late Douglas C. King, and is newly engaged to Morgan T. Lutz.
He graduated from Lewistown Area High School in 2009, and The Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 2012.
Stephen began his work in the funeral industry alongside his father at Heller-Hoenstine and Hoenstine Funeral Homes until 2014 when he began his employment at Barr Funeral Home. King is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Lewistown, the Mifflin County Sportsman’s Club, the Lewistown Country Club, attends Walnut Street United Methodist Church in Burnham, and is treasurer of The Juniata Valley Funeral Directors Association.
Barr Funeral Home is one the area’s oldest funeral homes dating back to 1841. Roger G. Barr has been the owner and Funeral Director since 1977 when he took over after his father William A. Barr passed away.
“Stephen has been working alongside me for the past six years. I am pleased to announce that he will be taking over the funeral home and continuing to provide the care to the families of this community. I am confident that he will continue in the tradition of caring for all families and loved ones as if they were his own. We have always said we are one family serving yours and I have no doubt Stephen will continue that legacy.”
Although Barr is retiring, he plans to help at the funeral home on a part time basis.
The funeral home will now be named King-Barr Funeral Home.
Dear Mifflin County,
The Barr family has been serving this community since 1841. They have strived to bring the highest level of service to the families of this community during that time, which is a tradition that I look to firmly uphold.
As a funeral director, there is no higher honor than to be there for those who walk through our door. For me, the funeral home is more than a business–it represents my life’s purpose and my calling. I will be honoring the legacy left by the many generations of the Barr family, whose goal it was to provide compassionate end-of-life care to the residents of the area and give families peace of mind and comfort in their greatest times of need.
I will never take for granted the opportunity to serve this great community that has shaped me into the man that I am today. I hope to carry on the heritage of the Barr Funeral Home and provide an unparalleled level of service to every family we serve through an unwavering commitment to this area for my lifetime.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Roger Barr for placing the utmost trust in myself, and every one of you for putting your trust in the Barr Funeral Home in the past and continuing that trust into the future.
Sincerely,
Stephen D. King
