Larry was born on February 13, 1926 in Lewistown, PA. to Lawrence, Sr. and Joyce (Benner) Dodd. He grew up on Long Island, N.Y. but spent summers in Lewistown. Larry graduated from Lawrence High School, received his BA from Princeton and MA from Columbia. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII and served under Gen. Patton, most notably during the Battle of the Bulge, for which he received a Bronze Star.
Larry and Jacqueline Mair were married on Aug. 13, 1950 and they were blessed with 2 daughters, Linda and Jeanne. He taught elementary school for several years and subsequently moved into administration as an elementary school principal. Retiring in 1987, he and Jackie returned to Lewistown.
Larry was loved by family and friends for his gentle kindness and humble nature.
Larry passed away suddenly but peacefully on Oct. 19, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, and sister, Dorothy. Larry is survived by daughters: Linda Dodd of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Jeanne Christensen of Omaha, NE.; grandchildren: Kerrie and Joe Wellman and David and Brynne Christensen; and 3 greatgrandchildren, all of Omaha, NE.
Private services were held in Omaha, Nebraska. Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 1 PM at Juniata Memorial Park in Lewistown.
Arrangements are under the care of The Barr Funeral Home Inc. and Crematory, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown.
