Obituary for Sherri McGraw (Goss)

Sherri McGraw, age 51, passed quietly early Sunday Morning, October 28th, after a brief illness. The daughter of David and Linda Goss (nee Davis), she grew up in Lewistown and graduated from Lewistown High School.
While attending Penn State University, Sherri met Mike, her future husband of almost 30 years. Together, they lived in Maryland, Florida, Pittsburgh, and Vermont before returning to Lewistown.
Sherri had a passion for learning. In Florida, she graduated from St John’s River Community College with degrees in business and computing. She continued on to the University of North Florida with a degree in Psychology. After moving to Pittsburgh, she attended Duquesne University, achieving her Master’s and PhD in Psychology with a dissertation on the relationship between the soldier and military working dog.
What Sherri loved most was teaching and the company of her Newfoundland dogs. She devoted much of her time to teaching at the community college, often attending class with her dog, to the delight of many.
She also enjoyed helping others with animal assisted therapy. As a registered therapy dog handler, Sherri and her dog Jack visited nursing homes, assisted living facilities, schools, convents, and libraries over 300 times.
Upon receiving news of her passing, a long time friend wrote “Sherri represented everything that is good in the world. Her loss is our loss”. We miss her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, love someone for who they are…
Arrangements are under the care of The Barr Funeral Home Inc. and Crematory, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown.
