Obituary for Robert C. Fisher

Robert C. Fisher, 93 of Maitland, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College.
Born at home on June 9, 1925 in Sunbury, he was the son of the late Guy and Martha (Haas) Fisher.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae J. (Strawser) Fisher in 1999; 2 sons, Alvin R. Benner and Ronald C. Fisher; a sister, Mary Comfort and a brother, William Derr.
Robert is survived by one son, Robert (Jake) Fisher and wife Deb of Reedsville and one daughter, Shirley M. Baxter and husband Michael of Maitland as well as 21 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart, as did his friend and care-giver, Bryan.
Robert served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from December 1943 to April 1946. Earlier in life, he worked in the lumbering trade with his Dad, and later as a ladleman in the Melt Shop at Standard Steel in Burnham, retiring in 1987 after more than 30 years of service.
He was a member of the Open Door Bible Church in Louisiana.
Robert was a member of the VFW and American Legion, and a longtime participant in the local Relay for Life. When he was physically able, Robert spent much of his time over the years outdoors, gardening and working in the yard, being especially proud of his tulips. He enjoyed attending the Newton Hamilton Turkey suppers, retiree Melt Shop Breakfasts with his friend and co-worker George; Lip Sync programs, family reunions, and all other family activities.
He also had a lifetime of memories and experiences gained from the travels with his wife Mae throughout their long marriage. They visited most of the states and attended Fan Fair in Nashville for many years, as well as numerous other country music concerts and fairs; and of course, every year Robert looked forward to cheering on his beloved Penn State football team.
Family always came first to Robert, and spent many years as a caregiver for his wife Mae, and later, his sister-in-law Mary. He was truly loved as a husband, father, grandfather, son and friend, and will remain close in our hearts for always, in all ways.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Barr Funeral Home and Crematory , 120 Logan Street, Lewistown with Rev. Vicki Elmer officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park with military honors provided by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.
