Merle S. Walk, 74, of McClure, ended his journey here on earth at 5:35 a.m. on Wednesday January 31, 2018.
Born March 25, 1943 in Palmerton, he was the son of the late Samuel and May (Gower) Walk.
Merle is survived by his loving wife, Faye (Krum) Walk, whom he married on June 16, 1972. He is also survived by his children, Troy Neff, Rhonda (Walk) Pupo and her husband Scott, all of Lewistown, siblings, Jerry Walk of Little Gap, and Geraldine Greenzweig and husband Lester of Parryville, grandchildren, Zachary Neff, Garrett Neff, Tricia Neff, Makenza Neff, Evan Pupo, Leah Pupo, Marcella Pupo, and Jaxon Pupo, 3 Great-Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Merle was a devoted father and husband. Merle and Faye would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary this year.
Merle was a graduate of Palmerton High School, Palmerton, Pa. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. He was a soldier to the core, military suited his sense of order and code of loyalty. His loyalty, diligence and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service. He kept up with his army buddies throughout his life. He was a member of the 1st Battalion 27th Infantry Wolfhounds "NEC ASPERA TERRANT". He was awarded Purple Heart with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, National Defense Service Medal and Bronze Star Medal.
After his service in the military, Merle moved to Lewistown where he was General Manager of Scotty's Fashions for over 30 years.
Merle had a passion for fishing and Hunting. He was Secretary and member of the Raystown Striper Club for many years where he won numerous awards and trophies. He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose, American Legion and VFW.
The family will accept visitation Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Barr Funeral Home Inc. and Crematory, 120 Logan Street Lewistown, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. and memorial services to follow at 3:00 p.m. In honor of Merle's life and military service, we will conclude the memorial with a rendering of military funeral honors.
