John L. Tate, 82, of Lewistown, passed away 5:42 p.m., Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born December 31, 1934 in Mapleton Depot, he was the son of the late Marion (Snare) and John A. Tate.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Osborne) Tate on January 23, 2013 and a sister, Margaret Foltz Bishop.
He is survived by his step-children, Michael Lewis Beckenbaugh of Milroy; Deborah Stalhman of Reedsville; Wayne Beckenbaugh of Burnham; 5 step grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren; his sisters, Mary L. Norton and husband Harry of Lewistown and Myra L. Bannon and fiancée , Edward Leeper of Reedsville.
John served in the U.S. Navy for 3 years in maintenance on aircraft carriers.
He was employed at the American Viscose Corporation, the PA Railroad and retired from Mann Edge Tool Company.
John was a member of the American Legion Post 287 in Milroy.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Juniata Memorial Park with Pastor John Walters officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Barr Funeral Home and Crematory, 120 Logan street, Lewistown.
